AIR POLLUTION

Welcome to the International SOS Members Air Pollution website.

Air pollution has become one of the most pressing environmental concerns globally. The World Health (WHO) estimates that air pollution kills about 7 million people worldwide each year, while the  United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) calls it the “biggest environmental health risk of our time”.

Poor air quality has adverse effects on the environment and human health causing illness and death. The UNEP announced 5 December 2017 as the first international Smog Day to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the Great Smog of London.

A number of cities across many countries are routinely affected. This website provides general information on air pollution and how it is measured, health effects, precautions to take, and city and country information.
