Repatriation and Return to Operations support for a national oil company during COVID-19

Overview

International SOS completed a repatriation mission for a national oil company from South Sudan to Malaysia, and provided return to operations support amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Service: Repatriation and Return to Operations
Location: South Sudan and Malaysia

Problem

Due to international travel restrictions, 38 of our client’s employees were unable to return to their home countries after completion of their rotational assignments in South Sudan since May 2020. The employees were very worried and concerned about the possibility of border closure as the pandemic worsened.

Solution

After receiving our client’s request to repatriate all employees in South Sudan, we were on hand to source a charter option through a national commercial carrier. We worked diligently with various entities to secure over-flight and landing permits from civil aviation authorities. We provided charter arrangements for non-Malaysians to return home, as well as COVID-19 safety briefings conducted to all 83 passengers and flight crew members. Our client’s employees were able to resume their operations on site.

Impact

The impact was very positive as our health and security expertise helped reduce the potential concern and anxiety of our clients’ employees by enabling a safe passage home.
